9:15 amCoulee Crest FarmAlberta’s 2019 Environmental Stewardship Award recipients. Randy and Sandra Radau run a purebred and commercial cow calf operation with a small feedlot to background calves. They also have a fully integrated grain operation where they stubble graze cattle and utilize composted manure. The majority of grazing is done in Spruce Coulee which is designated an Environmentally Significant Area.

10:15 am – Depart

11:30 amW.A. Ranches – The ranch was donated to the University of Calgary in 2018, fundamentally transforming education and research at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The university now operates the ranch for the purposes of teaching and learning, research, and community engagement. The study of cattle in the complex, real-farm context will enable research that can improve management practices for ranchers as well as academic programming that produces better veterinarians with more hands-on experience.

12:30 pm – Depart

1:30 pm – Lunch at Big Sky BBQ Pit near Okotoks

2:30 pm – Depart

3:10 pmBallco Group – Located near the town of Brant, Alberta, Canada. Ballco Feeders, established in 1993 and today feeds 15,000 head in a modern, well-drained facility. They are squarely focused on managing the individual animal to maximize value and profitability. Ballco Group also consists of Brant Lake Wagyu – a Wagyu cross cow calf operation that markets direct to retailers, foodservice and consumers.

4:10 pm – Depart for hotel

5:10 pm – Arrive back at hotel
